Tanggal 3 Maret 2009 lalu, KOMPAS memuat berita mengenai ponsel S302 Snapshot dan W302 Walkman dari Sony Ericsson yang dilengkapi dengan Bahasa Sunda (Basa Sunda) dan Bahasa Jawa (Boso Jowo). Disebutkan bahwa kedua ponsel tersebut merupakan ponsel pertama dari Sony Ericsson — bahkan dari seluruh merk ponsel yang ada — yang mendukung kedua bahasa daerah tersebut.

Memang, jika kita bicara dari sudut pandang secara default atau factory setting, S302 dan W302 merupakan ponsel pertama yang memiliki kedua bahasa tersebut secara langsung pada saat kita membelinya di toko-toko atau gerai Sony Ericsson.

Tetapi, sebenarnya menjelang akhir tahun 2008 lalu, tepatnya bulan Desember tahun 2008, kedua bahasa ini sudah bisa didapatkan dengan cara melakukan update firmware — baik secara online melalui SEUS (Sony Ericsson Update Service), maupun datang langsung ke lokasi SESC (Sony Ericsson Service Center) terdekat. Ponsel pertama yang update firmware-nya memiliki kedua bahasa ini adalah T303.

Menurut pendapat saya, merupakan suatu terobosan besar dan menarik telah dilakukan dengan baik oleh Sony Ericsson Indonesia dengan menambahkan kedua bahasa daerah dengan jumlah penduduk pengguna yang merupakan dua besar di Indonesia. Pangsa pasar yang disasar dengan kedua bahasa baru ini memang kelas menengah ke bawah — terlihat dari type ponsel yang mendukung — dengan asumsi bahwa di kelas tersebut kemungkinan besar terdapat pengguna atau calon pengguna ponsel yang tidak sepenuhnya memahami bahasa Indonesia ataupun bahasa Inggris dengan baik.

Dua jenis ponsel Sony Ericsson pertama yang menggunakan fitur Bahasa Jawa dan Sunda.

JAKARTA, SELASA — Tak tanggung-tanggung, Sony Ericsson langsung mengisi dua seri ponselnya dengan fitur Bahasa Jawa dan Sunda untuk memanjakan penggunanya. Dua seri ponsel tersebut adalah seri W302 dan S302 yang sudah diluncurkan sejak akhir tahun 2008 lalu, tetapi kini di-upgrade dengan fitur bahasa ini.

Menurut Djunadi Satrio, Head of Marketing Sony Ericsson Indonesia, tim Sony Ericsson memerlukan waktu satu tahun untuk mempersiapkan fitur bahasa Jawa dan Sunda sebelum akhirnya diluncurkan melalui kedua ponsel ini. Tak semua istilah diterjemahkan ke dalam bahasa daerah ini, selain tak ada padanannya, beberapa istilah yang sudah familiar, seperti bluetooth dan download dipertahankan dengan bahasa aslinya.

Untuk mempersiapkan bahasa yang benar dalam ponsel ini, seperti dikutip Warta Kota, Sony Ericsson menggandeng ahli bahasa dari UGM dan UI. Pihak Sony Ericsson mengklaim sebagai produsen ponsel pertama yang memperlengkapi ponsel-ponselnya dengan bahasa Sunda dan Jawa. Untuk ke depannya, setelah kuartal kedua 2009 ponsel-ponsel keluaran Sony Ericsson akan dilengkapi pula dengan kedua bahasa ini.

Ponsel W302 Walkman® memiliki spesifikasi Kamera 2 MP, Radio FM, TrackID™, dan Memory Stick Micro (M2) 512 MB dibanderol dengan harga Rp 1.500.000. Sementara untuk ponsel S302 Snapshot mengunggulkan Kamera 2 MP yang dilengkapi dengan memori internal 20 MB dan dukungan memori eksternal Memory Stick Micro™ (M2™), Photo Light dan Photo Fix dipasarkan dengan harga Rp 1.400.000.

W302, W595, W902: Three new Walkman® phones, with two supporting Java Platform 8 ( JP-8 )

On July 22, 2008, Sony Ericsson announced three new Walkman® phones – the W302, W595 and W902 – to coincide with the Walkman phone’s third birthday. Since the launch of the first Walkman phone in 2005, the W800, Sony Ericsson has sold 77 million Walkman phones to date.

The W595 and W902 Walkman phones support Sony Ericsson’s Java™ Platform 8 ( JP-8 ), based on the Mobile Services Architecture (MSA) umbrella standard (JSR 248), and this takes the number of phones in this platform family to 17. The W302 supports nine JSRs.

The Sony Ericsson W302 Walkman is a quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE phone packed with features in an affordable, no-compromise slim handset. In addition to offering the Walkman player, FM radio and TrackID™ track recognition, the W302 supports a range of JSRs and includes 3D gaming with both JSR 184 and Mascot Capsule version 4.

The W595 Walkman is a HSPDA slider phone with music management using Shake Control and SensMe™, track discovery using TrackID and an FM radio. The W595 also includes a 320×240 pixel 262K TFT QVGA display, 40MB internal memory, extendable external memory using Memory Stick Micro™, a 3.2 megapixel camera and picture & video blogging. The W595 is based on Sony Ericsson’s Java Platform 8 ( JP-8 ) and joins the JP-8.3 sub-category.

The W902 Walkman is also a HSPDA phone and is designed for a true multimedia experience with superior audio quality, 5.0 megapixel camera with 16x digital zoom, picture and video blogging and track discovery using TrackID. The W902 also includes a 320×240 pixel 262K TFT QVGA display, 24 MB internal memory and extendable external memory with Memory Stick Micro. As with the W595, the W902 is based on Java Platform 8 ( JP-8 ) and joins the JP-8.3 sub-category
